An overview of the effective use of articles in the promotion of a product , service or website. A six part series covering both intermediate and advanced article marketing strategies.

If you are anything like me, you are a huge fan of FREE traffic to your website, visitors who are already familiar with your words, your thoughts, your pitch and presentation and want to hear, see and learn more about who you are and what you have to offer. There are a ton of promotional tactics that promise this kind of result, but most, as you’ve probably already discovered, fall well short of meeting that auspicious promise.

Article Marketing, when done right – will deliver on that promise over and over again, and then a few more times for good measure…..It is not easy, and to do the right way takes a little bit of brains and some foresight, but for those willing to learn and apply these techniques, I promise you will find it to be one of the most important weapons in your internet marketing arsenal – as I will prove to you over the course of the next few weeks. I am going to do my best to make this as complete of a resource as I can, one that you can return to over and over if need be, illuminating the many shiny rewards that mastering this covert skill will manifest in your marketing Mojo.

And yes, I know that lots of people write articles, lots of people have little *ebooks* on writing articles, seminars, systems and all of that good stuff. There is no lack of people peddling over-hyped, mediocre material to the masses in search of a quick buck – and I’ll add- in If you feel that you know all that you need to know, and your article writing campaigns are as good as they are going to get, go find something else to do with your time rather than read what I have to say on the subject…. But for those who have been disappointed with the general state and status of the information that is out there, want to market their products and services effectively with minimal cost, and are willing to roll up their sleeves and do some heavy lifting, I think you are going to find this to be a bit of a revelatory read.

But first, let’s ask why?

With the plethora of other marketing options available to me – why would I want to waste my time writing articles?

Article writing campaigns are VERY, very good at accomplishing the following three tasks, and for the most part, at an extremely low barrier of entry from a cost ( and skill) standpoint:

1) Creating good inbound keyword rich links pointing back to your website.

2) Creating a solid stream of pre-qualified visitors to your site by piggybacking off of the directories themselves who host and syndicate your articles.

3)Setting you up as an authority on your subject – the perceived value of both your name and your destination website are invariably boosted by having them both plastered all over the web as a source of valuable information on your topic, niche or professional service.

And really, these are only the surface layer benefits of writing and submitting articles to directories and other sites in your field. On their own, they are really payoff enough as just following the basic steps I will outline, you will undoubtedly see an increase in the amount, and quality of your website traffic. But as we move further along into some of the more intermediate and advanced strategies, you will see how following these simple steps will bolster just about any of your other profitable promotional practices, including running highly relevant PPC campaigns, on site SEO, link-bait that really works, and a whole host of other useful and practical marketing magic..:-)

Everyone knows that 2007 is the year of the link -the Authority Site – if you have hundreds or even thousands of websites or directories republishing your work with a link back to your site – and with the keyword text of your choosing, do you think that is good for your site authority and keyword links? How will that affect your rank for the keyword phrases you are targeting? Now – if you are smart – and are targeting highly desirable phrases to your niche or business or product – do you think you might be getting a lot of organic traffic from those same keywords?

I saw an article earlier (not written by me..:-( )today in one of my niches that had 50,000 views in the last year just on one simple directory – ( and that author might have syndicated that article across hundreds of directories). And truthfully, it wasn’t even that well written, or to be totally honest with you, a very interesting read at all. But it did have a great headline, in a popular and evergreen subject, and the author of that particular piece undoubtedly was smart enough to have benefited from both.

What I will teach you, if you choose to follow along, is how to apply all of these skills and expertise across the broad landscape of converging creative qualities you need to do this often and well, and then how to scale up and out, tuning your latent “Hemingway” loose while you blindside your competition with quality content, links, accelerated page rank and of course, increased profits!

So dig in and tune out the distractions, and mosey on over to part 2 – Article Marketing Mastery: Sourcing, Structure and SEO
